Tonita Castro

Radio Personality and Actress. Castro was a Latina character actress who will best be remembered for her regular roles on such comedy series as ‘Dads’, ‘Go On’ and ‘Life in Pieces’. She came to the United States from Mexico in the late 1970s, following the death of her father, and to help support her family she took several jobs, including cleaning houses. She landed a gig as a news reader at Radio Express in Los Angeles before quickly being promoted to co-host of a Spanish-language show, where she stayed for nearly two decades. In 2005, she switched careers when she landed a role on television’s ‘The Sheild’, and would go on to have roles in a variety of series, from dark dramas to comedies, including ‘Dexter’, ‘Southland’, ‘Glee’, ‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’, ‘Raising Hope’, ‘Awkward’ and ‘The League’. Among films she appeared in were ‘Friends with Money’ (2006), ‘Funny People’ (2009), ‘Our Family Wedding’ (2010), ‘Sound of my Voice’ (2011) and ‘The Shifting’ (2013). Castro, who last appeared in the pilot for the Fox comedy ‘The Grinder’, died from complications of stomach cancer. (bio by: Louis M.)
