Therese Giehse

Actress. Born as Therese Gift as daughter of Jewish parents, she began her career in 1920, together with Erika and Thomas Mann, foundress of the Munich cabaret “Die Pfeffermühle.” She migrated to Zurich-Switzerland in 1933 to escape the Nazi-regime. Fondly remembered as ‘Mutter Courage’ in Bertolt Brecht’s stage play “Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder” (1941 premiere). She died in 1975 just 3 days before her 77th birthday. (bio by: The Romancer)
