Stephen Lee (Stephen Stephen Lee)
The man who played the annoying but thorough cabinet installer/nap-desk modifier on Seinfeld has died. Stephen Lee died August 14 of a heart attack in his Los Angeles home, police said. He was 58. The veteran character actor racked up scores of credits, Stephen Leemostly TV shows but also on the big screen. The Englewood, NJ, native began his career in the early 1980s, appearing on such TV dramas as Hart To Hart, Remington Steele, Scarecrow And Mrs. King and Hill Street Blues. He continued to work steadily in TV, recurring as Tony B on Nash Bridges and doing arcs on Quantum Leap, Cybill, Murder One and Dark Angel. Along with his Seinfeld role as Conrad, who added suffocating cabinetry to Jerry’s apartment and customized George’s work desk into a napper’s paradise, Lee later had roles on episodes of such hits series as Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, The West Wing, and Bones. Lee’s first feature gig was WarGames (1983), and he went on to play ill-fated “Chantilly Lace” singer the Big Bopper in the Ritchie Valens biopic La Bamba. Later film credits include Burlesque, The Negotiator and Who Do I Gotta Kill? Lee spent his first 15 years living in Europe and also spoke German, French and Spanish.
