Sheila Sim

Actress. Born Sheila Beryl Grant Sim (later she was known as Lady Sheila Sim Attenborough), she chose to follow a profession in entertainment and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her motion picture debut playing ‘Allison Smith opposite Eric Portman in “The Canterbury Tale” (1944). In 1945, she married actor Richard Attenborough (remained with him until his death in 2014) and co-starred with him in the films “Dancing with Crime” (1947), “The Outsider” (1948) and “The Magic Box” (1951). Her other pictures include “Dear Mr. Prohack” (1949), “Pandora and the Flying Dutchman” (1951), “West of Zanzibar” (1954) and “The Night My Number Came Up” (1955). Additionally, she (along with Richard) starred in the original run of the Agatha Christie play “Mousetrap” on the London stage in 1952. Her son Michael Attenborough went on to become an actor. She suffered a personal tragedy in 2004, when her daughter Jane and her granddaughter Lucy perished during the tsunami which struck Thailand. She died of complications from dementia.
