Rosemary Rice (Rosemary Rice)

Rosemary Rice

Actress. Fondly remembered for playing Katrin in the long-running TV series “Mama” (also sometimes referred to as “I Remember Mama”, 1949 to 1956). Raised in North New Jersey, with the proximity of New York City minutes away where the abundance of opportunities for parts on radio awaited, Rosemary launched her career in entertainment while a teenager as she landed the part of Jill Malone in the popular program “Young Doctor Malone”. Simultaneously, she played the featured role of Betty Cooper on the series “Archie Archer” and marked her Broadway debut with the comedy “The Naked Genius” (1943) which starred Joan Blondell. When the popular radio program “Mama” became a television adaptation in 1949, she was cast as the eldest daughter of Marta “Mama” Hansen played by Peggy Wood and during the show’s run, audiences became accustom to Rosemary’s opening narration before the start of each episode. She went onto have a recurring role on the TV serial “The Edge of Night” and during the 1970s, she was a regular performer on the program “CBS Radio Mystery Theater”. In later years, Rosemary frequented radio show conventions. (bio by: C.S.)
