American Actress. Towne was known for her appearances opposite Ronald Reagan in films such as ‘Sergeant Murphy’ (1938), ‘Cowboy from Brooklyn’ (1938), ‘Secret Service of the Air’ (1939) and ‘Code of the Secret Service’ (1939). Brought to Hollywood at age 19, she made a screen test for Warner Bros and signed a contract with the studio. She made her film debut in 1937 and had mostly uncredited roles in motion pictures such as ‘Varsity Show’, ‘It’s Love I’m After’ and ‘Submarine D-1’. In 1939, she got her first leading role when she was chosen to play the part of comic strip character Jane Arden in a ‘The Adventures of Jane Arden’. During her career, she starred alongside such names as Bette Davis, George Brent, Lee Bowman and Margaret Lindsay in such films as ‘Dark Victory’ (1939), ‘Flight Angels’ (1940), ‘No, No, Nanette’ (1940) and ‘The Hard-Boiled Canary’ (1941). With the arrival of World War II, she found herself getting less work in films and left the industry in 1942 after marrying screenwriter Harry Kronman. She moved to Connecticut in the late 1940s and opened her own clothing store. Towne died of natural causes. (bio by: Louis M.)
