Ray Arnett (Ray Arnett)

Ray Arnett

Choreographer, Director, Producer. Arnett was best known for his decades spent working with Liberace. Early in his career, he was nicknamed “King of the Gypsies” for being the hardest-working chorus boy in the now cult classic ‘Forgotten Musicals’ on Broadway. Soon thereafter, he would dance alongside the legendary Mae West on television and eventually star in his own one-man show. In 1956, Arnett became Liberace’s stage director and producer and would spend the better part of the next three decades with the flamboyant pianist, beginning with his European tour aboard the Queen Mary. In 1984, Arnett’s name appeared in lights on the marquee above Radio City Music Hall as the producer for Liberace’s 21 sold-out performances. Arnett, who in 2013 was portrayed by actor Tom Papa in the HBO film ‘Behind the Candelabra’, died at age 97 of natural causes. (bio by: Louis M.)
