Raphael von Koeber (Raphael von Koeber)
Russian philosopher. Born from a family of German origin, he studied piano in Moscow with teachers such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Nikolai Rubinstein. Graduated in 1872, he decided to undertake the study of Philosophy at the University of Jena, where in 1878 he obtained his doctorate. He was Professor of Aesthetics, Musicology and Music History at the University of Berlin, Heidelberg and Munich of Bavaria. In 1893, Von Koeber accepted the Chair of greek and medieval Philosophy of Imperial University of Tokyo, where he remained until 1914. In Japan, even today, is considered an excellent figure, as man and as a professor. His library, consisting of almost 2000 classic and philosophical works, is located at the Tohoku University.
