British Actor. Born in Yorkshire, England he was a veteran performer of stage, film and television from the 1960’s to 2004. His films included The Luzhin Defense, Carrington, ID, The Bridge, Passion and Paradise, Anno Domini, Arthur the King, Alfred the Great and Kaleidoscope. Amongst his many TV credits were The Alan Clark Diaries, The Falklands Play, Sword of Honour, Devil’s Advocate, Only Fools and Horses, Foyle’s War, Dalziel and Pascoe, Rumpole of the Bailey and Love on a Branch Line. In 1997, he became a member of the Peter Hall Company in its season at the Old Vic, with a repertory of The Provoked Wife, The Seagull, Waste and King Lear. A regular in London’s theatre land, he also appeared at the National in Hamlet, King Lear, Pravda, The Government Inspector and Futurists. In 2003 he was seen on stage in Nicholas Hytner’s award-winning Henry V. His last performances were in Peter Hall’s productions of Mrs Warren’s Profession, The Royal Family and Amadeus.
