Nicholas Courtney (Nicholas Courtney)
Actor. He is best known for his role as Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart in the popular British TV series “Doctor Who”. Born William Nicholas Stone Courtney in Egypt, the son of a an English diplomat, he was educated in Egypt, France and Kenya before joining the the National Service. After his military experience Courtney fulfilled his ambitions of becoming an actor, as he trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, and followed this with stage performances while a member of numerous repertories including West End, Liverpool, Birmingham and Worthing; he appeared in such productions as “Doctors Dilemma” and “The Rehearsal”. During the late 1950s he began a lengthy career in British TV as he appeared on such programs as “The Saint”, “The Avengers” and “Softly Softly” before finding his niche in the series “Doctor Who”.
