Actor. He was one of the most popular actors and comedians who appeared in film, television, and on the theatrical stage in France. After graduating from high school and college, he started in law for a year before the Second World War caused him to being sent first to Austria as a laborer and then to Yugoslavia as a blacksmith before being freed by partisans of Josip Tito.  Galabru went to the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art to study acting after the war and then started first in films and then television.   His film and television credits, which numbered more than 250 throughout his career, included such works as “Le théâtre de la jeunesse”, “Au théâtre ce soir”, “Cinema 16”,  “Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar” (1999), “Subway” (1985) and “Belle Epoque” (1992).   For his acting work, he received several award nominations and won both the Cesar Award (in 1977 for his work in “Le juge et l’assassin”) and the Molieres Award (in 2008 for “Socks-Opus 124”.    He also appeared in over 80 theatrical plays during his career.
