Meredith MacRae

Actress, Television Personality and Producer. Born in Houston, Texas on an Army base where her father, Gordon MacRae, was stationed. Her father was a singer and movie idol of the ’50s and her mother, Sheila MacRae, an actress and author. Her siblings were, Heather MacRae, GarMacRae, Bruce MacRae, and a half-sister, Amanda MacRae. She started her own acting career and was in her fathers film “By The Light Of The Silvery Moon”. She also starred in two sitcoms: “Petticoat Junction”, and “My Three Sons”. She guest starred in many other television shows and also appeared in several movies and had a singing career. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in English. She married Richard Berger, former president of MGM in 1964. They divorced four years later. In 1969 She married actor Greg Mullavey. They had one daughter, Allison, born in 1974. Greg and Meredith divorced in 1992. In 1995 She married Phillip M. Neal, Chairman and CEO of Avery-Dennison. Meredith became a television producer and writer. She created and hosted “Born Famous”, a series of specials in which she interviewed children of famous parents. She also made several PBS specials. Her style and tough investigative questions as the host of “Mid-Morning Los Angeles”, won her an Emmy. She also received the Angel Award as producer of the most outstanding documentary of the year, a Vesta Award for Excellence in Journalism and, a Bronze Halo Award from the Motion picture Broadcast Council. She was chosen as Celebrity Businesswoman of the Year by NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners); received a U.S. Senate Certificate of Commendation and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition. Meredith was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 1999 and had emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. She died at her home in the coastal suburb of Manhattan Beach. She was 56.
