Marly Marley (Marly Marley)
Actress, Singer. A noted performer, music critic, and theatre director, she shall probably be best remembered as a music judge on the long running reality television show “The Raul Gil Program”. Born in the small interior village of Tres Lagos, she was raised in the Sao Paulo suburbs, and though educated as a teacher and psychologist became a popular showgirl in vaudeville-type reviews before making her silver screen bow in 1962’s “O Vendeda Linguicas”. Marley had her best known cinematic appearances in the comedies “Casinha Pequenina” (1963) and “O Puritano de Rua Augusta” (1965) and over the coming decades performed stage productions, including operettas, while earning respect as a critic and director. In 1987 she landed her gig on the highly rated “Raul Gil Program”, a sort-of Brazilian version of “American Idol”, which she kept to the end of her life. Marley earned her final screen credit in the 2007 drama “Chega de Saudade” and died of metastatic pancreatic cancer. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
