Mapy Cortes (Mapy Cortes)
Actress. Born Maria del Pilar Mercado Cordero in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was an important entertainer in film and television during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She made her big screen debut in “Two Woman and Don Juan” (1934), followed by “El gato montes” (1936). A veteran of over thiry-five films, her credits included “Five Secert Minutes of Love” (1941), “Seven Days’ Leave” (1942), “Un besto en la noche” (1945), “The Three Sins” (1966) and “Luna de miel en Puerto Rico” (1969). For Mexican TV, she was a regular on the 1980s series “Pobre juventud” and “Marionetas”. She died of a heart attack at age 88 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. (bio by: John “J-Cat” Griffith)
