Mae Costello (Mae Costello)
Actress. Born in Brooklyn, she began performing in touring stock companies as a teen and married fellow actor Maurice Costello in 1902. Although the couple separated in 1910, they did not divorce until 1927 and Mae continued to appear on stage and screen as “Mrs. Maurice Costello”. Her films include “Her Crowning Glory” (1911), “The Mills of the Gods” (1912), “When a Woman Loves” (1915), and “Her Right To Live” (1917). She died of heart disease at 47. Mae’s career was long overshadowed by those of her husband and their two daughters, Helene Costello and Dolores Costello, and today she is remembered solely as a matriarch in America’s longest acting dynasty (the Barrymore-Drew clan). Her grandson was actor John Drew Barrymore; her great-granddaughter is actress Drew Barrymore.
