Lionel Belmore (Lionel Belmore)
Director and Actor. Lionel was on Broadway from 1899 and in American films by 1914. He was the director of 9 films between 1914 and 1920. During the 1930’s, Lionel was employed in Hollywood as English butlers, innkeepers, lairds, burgomasters and town elders. He acted in over 171 films. He was notable as the huffy-puffy Herr Vogel the Burgomaster in Frankenstein in 1931, and played bit parts in several 1930s film-classics. Later showing up on the village council in Son of Frankenstein in 1939 and Ghost of Frankenstein in 1942. Lionel also came in handy in Warner Bros.’ Errol Flynn, he also played in Prince and the Pauper in 1936 and The Adventures of Robin Hood in 1938. He was given good billing in Laurel and Hardy’s Bonnie Scotland in 1935. He would die in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles at the age of 85. (bio by: Shock)
