Leigh Chapman

Actress, Screenwriter. A popular performer of the early 1960s, she later became a respected writer. Born Rosa Leigh Chapman, she graduated from Winthrop College of Rock Hill, South Carolina, then went off to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune and landed her first job as a secretary with the William Morris Agency. Leigh made her 1963 small screen debut in “Ripcord” and went on to appearances on several series including “Combat!”, “McHale’s Navy”, “Burke’s Law”, “The Monkees”, and “Dr. Kildare”, though her most noted role was that of Sarah, Robert Vaughn’s secretary in multiple episodes of “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”. She broke into screenwriting with “Burke’s Law” then went on to write for “Mission: Impossible”, “The Mod Squad”, “My Favorite Martian”, “The Wild Wild West”, and other fare of the day. Branching out onto the big screen, her best known effort was the 1974 Peter Fonda action feature “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry” while her other credits included 1979’s “Boardwalk” and the 1990 “Impulse”. Her final project was the 1993 pilot for “Walker, Texas Ranger”, though due to contractual problems she used her mother’s name. Leigh lived out her days in Southern California, was in her later years a noted underwater photographer, and died of cancer. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
