Actor. Born in Avon, Illinois, he was best known for being the man with the golden voice, longtime TV and radio announcer. In 1929, he moved to Hollywood, became a staff announcer for KFI Radio and joined NBC Radio Networks in 1932. There he announced USC and UCLA football games for the Pacific Coast and the nation wide broadcast of Rose Bowl games. In 1936, he became the chief announcer for Bing Crosby’s “Kraft Music Hall” radio variety show and continued to announce for Crosby on various programs for the next 27 years. He was also the narrator for a series of theatrical short films for Paramount and television shows before retiring in 1959. He died in Santa Monica, California, at age 84.
