Junior Durkin

Stage and Movie Actor. Junior Durkin was born Trent Bernard Durkin in New York, New York. The son of actress Florence Edwards he was on stage before he was three and went on to appear often on stage in serious plays and musicals. Credited in his childhood as Junior Durkin and Trent Durkin in his last film, Chasing Yesterday (1935). He made his film debut in the movie Recaptured Love (1930). Durkin is best known for his role as Huckleberry Finn in Tom Sawyer (1930), and Huckleberry Finn (1931) and his starring role as Jimmy Mason in Hell’s House (1932). He made 11 movies in short life and career. On Saturday night, May 4, 1935, there was a car accident near San Diego which claimed the lives of four of the five people riding in the vehicle. Child star Jackie Coogan was injured, but lived. Coogan’s father, John H. Coogan, was the driver and died at the scene. The others who were killed were 19 year old Trent “Junior” Durkin, Charles Jones (the manager of the Coogan Ranch), and Robert J. Horner. (bio by: Debbie)  Family links:  Parents:  Florence G.
