Painter. He was born in El Canyamelar (Valencia, Spain), and was member of an artist family. He was son of painter Juan Antonio Benlliure and brother of sculptor Mariano Benlliure and painters Blas and Juan Antonio. Soon, he showed his talent for painting and after spent a time working in Valencia and Madrid, he moved to Rome where lived almost twenty years, getting international success, and becoming the leader of Spanish art colony in Rome. He was named Officier de l’Academie in France, member of Academy of San Carlos in Valencia and San Fernando in Madrid, and in 1926, he was member of Hispanic Society of America in New York. Among his works are “Monaguillos,” “Cardenal Romano,” “El Descanso en la Marcha,” “La Barca de Caronte,” “El Tio Andreu de Rocafort,” “El Tio José de Villar del Arzobispo” and “La Visión del Coliseo.” He have a Home-Museum in Valencia, and some of his paintings are in Museum of Bellas Artes. His son Peppino, also was a famous painter.
