American Actor. Born John P. Connell, he was an actor who was best known for playing Dr. David Malone on the daytime television soap opera “Young Dr. Malone”. During the Second World War, he received five Battle Stars and a Purple Heart for service as a radio operator and waist gunner aboard a B-24 with Squadron 513 of the Fifteenth Air Force, 376th Heavy Bombardment Group.  Connell often credited the “Tuskegee Airmen”, the all-black 99th Pursuit Squadron, which provided protective cover for two-thirds of the missions he flew.   After coming home from the war, he went to the University of Missouri to get his degree in journalism and then turned to acting.   Connell worked on Broadway for a short time before shifting to television.   He appeared in such live programs as  “Studio One in Hollywood”, “Kraft Theatre”, “You Are There”,  “Goodyear Playhouse”,”Danger”, “The Alcoa Hour”,  and “Robert Montgomery Presents”.    Connell also appeared in television “soap operas” such as  “The Edge of Night”, “Love of Life”, “The Secret Storm”, and “Dark Shadows”.   The character that he is most famous for was of the starring role on “Young Dr. Malone” which lasted from 1958 to 1963.   Connell also acted in such motion pictures as “Three Days of the Condor” (1975), “Family Business” (1989) and “Fail Safe” (1964).   During the 1960s he started doing voice overs for various commercials, becoming the spokesman for numerous products and services.    Connell also served 13 years on the board of the Screen Actors Guild.
