John Carter (John Carter)
Actor. Often cast in roles of authority, such as military figures, police officers and judges, he will be best remembered for playing ‘Lieutenant John Biddle’ on the TV series “Barnaby Jones” (1973 to 1980). Raised in Missouri, he moved to New York City to begin his career as an actor and made his professional debut in the Off-Broadway production “Sandhog” (1954). He initiated his association on Broadway with “Seventh Heaven” (1955) and appeared in a string of plays including “Take Me Along” (1959 to 1960) which starred Jackie Gleason. Carter marked his TV debut in a 1967 episode of the series “Combat!” and experienced his first recurring role as ‘Sergeant Ray Martin’ in the series “The Smith Family” (1971 to 1972). His film credits include “Monte Walsh” (1970), “Joe Kidd” (1972) and “Scarface” (1983). He died of complications from pneumonia. (bio by: C.S.)
