Jane Dornacker (Jane Dornacker)
American Rock Musician, Actress, and Comedian. Her music career included lead vocals for the San Francisco rock group “Leila and the Snakes”. She appeared in theater and standup performances, including the role of the stoic ‘nurse Murch’, in the 1983 movie “The Right Stuff”. In the mid 1980’s, she worked as a traffic reporter for WNBC 66 AM in New York. On October 22, 1986, at 4:44 PM, while Jane was giving one of the station’s N-Copter reports, a mechanical failure plunged the helicopter from a low altitude into the Hudson River. Radio listeners heard her last frantic shouts of “Hit the water! Hit the water!!…” Ironically, this was her second helicopter crash. Earlier in 1986, she and another pilot escaped with only minor injuries when their WNBC traffic helicopter crashed into New Jersey’s Hackensack River. (bio by: RCB)
