Idi Amin

Ugandan Dictator. He born in either 1924 or 1925, but his exact birthdate is not known. He helped to overthrow President Milton Obote, and was officially made leader on January 25, 1971, taking office, one week later. Amin served as the ruler of Uganda from February 2, 1971 until April 11, 1979. During his 8 year reign, over 500,000 innocent people were killed. In April 1979, he was forced out of office and he fled to Libya, Iraq, and then finally to Saudi Arabia where he was granted asylum. As well as being a Ugandan leader, Amin also served as a soldier in the British Colonial Army, and was Uganda’s Heavyweight Boxing Champion from 1951 to 1960. Idi Amin died on August 16, 2003, at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he had been in a coma since July 18, 2003, suffering from kidney disease and other ailments.
