Hiram Sibley (Hiram Sibley)
Businessman. Founder of Western Union. He was a friend of Czar Alexander I of Russia and the then Secretary of State William H. Seward, and persuaded the former to sell Alaska to the United States with the help of a United States government check supplied by the latter.
