Hideo Takamine (Hideo Takamine)
Educator. During a tour of the United States, Takamine became one of the few eductors to obtain a firm grasp of the Pestalozzian method of instruction while carrying out practice teaching at Oswego Normal School. After returning to Japan, Takamine served on the staff of Tokyo Normal School and in 1881 became its Director. He was able to teach the method to large numbers of teachers, and thus it was increasingly adopted for normal and elementary school education. His efforts helped advance educational processes in Japan. (bio by: Warrick L. Barrett)
