Herman E. Hollis (Herman E. Hollis)

Herman E. Hollis

US Federal Agent. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he was sworn in as criminal special agent for the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, in August of 1927. On November 27, 1934, while pursuing members of the John Dillinger Gang, he with another FBI Agent pulled over gangster Lester Joseph Gillis, known as “Baby Face Nelson” near Barrington, Illinois. The agents had forced the suspect’s car into a ditch in an arrest attempt when a gun fight ensued. The suspect came out of the ditch firing a Thompson sub-machine gun, fatally wounding both agents, but the agents were able to return fire killing “Baby Face Nelson” as well. Hollis is a member of the FBI Hall of Fame. (bio by: John “J-Cat” Griffith)  Family links:  Spouse:  Genevieve Hollis (1904 – 1968)* *Calculated relationship
