Economist. One of the most prominent economists of the 19th century, he is best know for influential his work “The Harmony of Interest”, which compared and contrasted free trade capitalist systems and developmental capitalist systems. His earlier work, “Principles of Political Economy”, which detailed American economic thought, was a standard on the subject well into the 20th century. He was the son of economist Matthew Carey.
