Gen Henry Delamar Clayton (Gen Henry Delamar Clayton)
Civil War Confederate Major General. When Civil War began, he was as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives and was asked to recruit a volunteer regiment. He organized the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment in March 1861 and was appointed Colonel. In 1862, he organized the 39th Alabama Regiment which led in the Kentucky campaign and the Battle of Murfreesboro. Promoted Brigadier General in 1863, he led his brigade in all the battles of Atlanta, Tennessee campaigns and the campaign in the Carolinas. Commissioned Major General in 1864, he led his division at Jonesboro, in the Nashville campaign and in North Carolina, surrendering his corps in the spring of 1865. After the war he engaged in planting and practiced law until his death.
