Estelle Lebost Reiner

Actress, Singer. The wife of comedian Carl Reiner and the mother of motion picture director Rob Reiner, she was raised in the Bronx, New York City, New York, where she studied art after graduating from high school and met her future husband while designing sets in the Catskills. The family lived in New Rochelle, New York, and was the basis for the ‘Petries’ in the television situation comedy “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, for which Carl Reiner was the head writer. She studied acting and appeared in several movies; her best known moment was in “When Harry Met Sally” (1989), directed by her son Rob, where she got to deliver the comic quip “I’ll have what she’s having” (the line was ranked number 33 on the American Film Institute list of best movie lines). She also appeared in “Fatso” (1980) and “The Man With Two Brains” (1983). She was a cabaret singer in her 1960s, and recorded several albums. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
