Elmer L. Ralphs (Elmer L. Ralphs)
Supermarket chain executive. Elmer Ralphs was the nephew of George A. Ralphs, founder of the Ralphs grocery store chain. After George Ralphs died in 1914, management of the chain was passed to his son, Albert, and his two nephews, Elmer and Walter W. Ralphs. At the time of his death, from blood poisoning at the age of 43, Elmer Ralphs was vice president and treasurer of the Ralphs Grocery Company. He had been married for 18 months, and was the father of a 6-month-old daughter. Elmer Ralphs was also one of the top golfers in Southern California, winning dozens of tournaments during his lifetime. (bio by: Mark Masek)
