 Eddie van Halen is an American guitarist. He is known as one of the greatest guitarists ever. He is famous for being the founder and lead guitarist for rock band Van Halen. Rolling Stones ranked him 8th in their list of greatest guitarists. He was ranked no.1 in Guitar World‘s readers poll.

Eddie Van Halen was born on January 26, 1955. He was born in Nijmegan, Netherlands. He was born to Jan van Halen and  Eugenia van Halen. His father is also a musician. His middle name Lodewijk is after the great composer Beethoven. He has brother named Alex Van Halen. The brothers together formed the band Van Halen. Their family moved to California in 1962.

Eddie originally started a band called Genesis. But they soon changed it after hearing a British band named Genisis was already there. They chose Mammoth as the next name for the band. He asked David Lee Roth to join their band.  Gene Simmons of Kiss was impressed after watching their show. He produced their first album.  Jimmy Page said at the time, “For my money, Van Halen was the first significant new kid on the block. Very dazzling.” Eddie Van Halen had issues with David Lee Roth. He wanted to join Kiss because of that. In 1982, recorded the riff of Michael Jackson’s Beat It. His style of guitar play has gained him tremendous respect all over the world. He Tapping technique is awesome. Tapping is playing the guitar with both hands on the guitar neck.

It was 1980 when Van Halen met actress Valerie Bertinelli at a Van Halen concert. They married in California on April 11, 1981. The couple has a son named Wolfgang.They separated in 2007. He then married  Janie Liszewski in 2009. He kept the naming tradition after great musicians with his son being named after Mozart.

He was known for his guitar riffs. That is why he was one of the greatest musicians alive.
