Actor. Best known for his character work in scores of 1930’s and 1940’s comedies and detective whodunits. He typically played hotel managers or police detectives of the slow burn variety. Born in Brookly, n MacBride started his career on the Vaudeville and Broadway stages as a teenage singer in shows like “George White`s Scandals”. Appearing in many silents of the 1910’s, he returned full time to films in the talkie era. His screen credits include “Room Service” (1938), “My Favorite Wife” (1940), “High Sierra” (1941), “The Glass Key” (1942), “The Killers” (1946) and “The Seven-Year Itch” (1955). TV credits include a season as Marie Wilson’s employer in the sitcom “My Friend Irma” (1952). He died after a long illness.
