Actor. Popular British stage and screen figure. He starred in such films as “Ill met by Moonlight” (1957), “Doctor at Large” (1957), “The Doctor’s Dilemma” (1959), “The Singer, Not the Song” (1961), “The Password is Courage” (1962) and “Oh! What a Lovely War” (1969). He was knighted in 1992. He was also a successful writer, most of which was written during his time in France.
