Diane Clare (Diane Clare)
Actress. Born Diane Dirsztay in London, her paternal grandmother was an accomplished ballerina, she began her career in the entertainment industry at an early age and initiated her film career with an uncredited part in the Cary Grant picture “Indiscreet” (1958). More substantial roles followed with “Ice Cold in Alex” (1958), “The Reluctant Debutant” (1958, as Angela Lansbury’s daughter), “Whistle Down the Wind” (1961) and her breakthrough part in the Robert Wise film “The Haunting” (1963). She will perhaps be best remembered for her roles in a series of horror pictures among them “Witchcraft” (1964), Hammer Studios’ “The Plague of Zombies” (1966) and “The Vulture” (1967). After marrying author Barry England (“Figures in a Landscape”), she retired from acting to raise her family. (bio by: C.S.)
