Danny Dayton

Actor. Born Daniel David Segall, Dayton played Hank Pivnik, Archie Bunker’s friend on “All in the Family” and “Archie Bunker’s Place”. He entered the world of entertainment after being drafted into the Army during World War II where he rose to head an entertainment division. He went on to a successful Broadway career, which included playing second banana to Phil Silvers in “High Button Shoes” and replacing Zero Mostel in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”. In films, he had roles in “At War with the Army” (1950), “The Turning Point” (1952), “Guys and Dolls” (1955) and “Love at First Bite” (1979). His TV appearances included ones on “Barney Miller”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “ChiPs”, “Mad About You” and “The Nanny”. He was an award-winning director of commercials featuring celebrities, including Buddy Hackett’s spots for Lays potato chips. He was co-founder and vice-president of the Synagogue for the Performing Arts.
