Corwin Anthony Hawkins

Actor, Comedian. A native of Houston, Texas, he is best remembered for playing the role of ‘Wayman’ in the 1994 film, “A Low Down Dirty Shame.” A 1982 graduate of the St. Peter’s Catholic High School in Houston, Texas, he later became a stand up comedian working at first in both Houston and Dallas, Texas. Known affectionately as “Amazing Grace” (for his female impersonations), he created characters such as Fanish Poontane, Miku Wara, Kelly Kelly, and did famous impersonations of Grace Jones, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Diana Ross, as well. Also, featured regularly on television comedy programs including, “Comic View” and “Def Comedy Jam,” he was named Miss Gay Texas in 1991, Texas Entertainer of the Year in 1992, and the National Entertainer of the Year Title in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1992. Originally discovered by comedian/actor Keenan Ivory Wayans, he also appeared on several HBO comedy specials, and at the L.A. Improv. On August 5, 1994, Hawkins passed away at the Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, following a battle with pneumonia. (bio by: K) Cause of death: Pneumonia
