Conrad  Bain

Actor. Bain, a Canadian-born actor who served in the Canadian Army during World War II, will best be remembered for his roles as as Phillip Drummond in the sitcoms ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ and as Dr. Arthur Harmon on ‘Maude’. He started as an actor in the 1956 stage revival of ‘The Iceman Cometh’. His other Broadway theatre credits included ‘Candide’, ‘Advise and Consent’, ‘An Enemy of the People’, ‘Uncle Vanya’, and ‘On Borrowed Time’ before he found work on television appearing in the cult-classic soap opera ‘Dark Shadows’ as the town inkeeper, Mr Wells, during the first two seasons. Among other TV shows he appeared in were ‘The Edge of Night’, ‘Twigs’, ‘The Facts of Life’ and ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’. Some of the films he appeared in were ‘Coogan’s Bluff’ (1968), ‘Bananas’ (1971), ‘Up the Sandbox’ (1972), ‘C.H.O.M.P.S.’ (1979) and ‘Postcards from the Edge’ (1990). Bain, who married artist Monica Sloan in 1945 who died in 2009, passed away from natural causes.
