Claudia Bryar (Claudia Bryar)
Actress. She shall be remembered for her countless television roles and as Mrs Emma Spool from Richard Franklin’s 1983 “Psycho II”. Born Hortense Rizler, she was the child of a Congressman and Federal Judge and was to break into show business when she moved to Southern California in the early 1950s. After refining her art in various regional theaters she made her silver screen debut with the 1956 “Giant” and was to be seen in a number of Hollywood features including 1969’s “Angel in My Pocket”, “Bad Company” (1972), and the 1973 “Pat Garret and Billy the Kid”. Bryar’s list of small screen credits was massive and included “Maverick”, “Gunsmoke”, “Medic”, “Perry Mason”, “Bonanza”, “The Twilight Zone”, “The Andy Griffith Show”, “Dennis the Menace”, “Leave It to Beaver”, “The Mod Squad”, “The F.B.I.”, “Dynasty”, “Quincy M.E.”, “The Waltons”, “Barnaby Jones”, “Dallas”, and “The Streets of San Francisco”. In 1983 she was cast as Mrs Emma Spool, an apparently kindly lady running a local diner who ends-up murdered by Anthony Perkins in “Psycho II”. Bryar was to be seen in flashback scenes from 1986’s “Psycho III” and made her final acting appearance that same year on an episode of “Hill Street Blues”. Her husband was actor Paul Bryar (real name, Barrere 1910-1985). She was to live out her days in Southern California.
