Charles S. Coyle, a 50-year resident of University City, Missouri, grew up in the Central West End. He was a graduate of The Principia and the University of Wisconsin and worked in management at Ralston Purina Co. for 20 years. He left to found the Folkestone Press, which published books on local history and architecture. The first, “Old St. Louis Homes: The Stories They Tell,” was published in 1964 and was by his historian wife, Elinor Martineau Coyle. He also published her three other books on St. Louis. Mr. Coyle also established a mail-order calendar business, Coyle Enterprises, which had worldwide distribution. During the last 25 years of his life, he and his wife led small special-interest tours to Europe. He was a Mason and a member of the Tuscan Lodge and Scottish Rite.
