Carl Frederick Gaertner (Carl Frederick Gaertner)
Artist, Author. Through his entire adult life, Gaertner was both a painter and a teacher. His work was represented by the Macbeth Gallery in New York. In the Cleveland tradition. Gaertner painted both in oil and watercolor. His pictures address a variety of subjects but his scenes of industrial Cleveland and Pittsburgh are among his most compelling and ambitious. Over the course of his career he was awarded more than 30 prizes in competitive exhibitions. His work is included in more than 25 public collections including those of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Mills College, California; Sheldon Swope Art Museum, and Whitney Museum of American Art.
