Bodil Kjer

Actress. She was born in Odense, where she received her first training in acting at the local theatre. From 1936 to 1938 she attended the drama school at The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen where she made her debut in 1937. Except for a short interval of five years she stayed at that theatre for the rest of her career and eventually became the leading lady of Danish theatre excelling both in comedy and tragedy. She participated in 30 films being probably best known internationally as one of the two spinster sisters in the Academy Award winning film “Babette’s Feast” from 1987. In 1966 she was made a Knight of Dannebrog, and in 1994 a Commander of that same order. Her memoirs were published in 1997. (bio by: Erik Skytte)
