Arthur “Bugs” Baer

Journalist and Humorist. Born into a family of French origin, he graduated from “Artillery Officers School” in Louisville, Kentucky. He later began his career at the Washington Post as a sports journalist. His talents as cartoonist and humorist was soon regarded by the public for having designed the body of baseball players with the look of insects. In 1923, after working at the New York Journal-American, he began to work as a screenwriter and cartoonist. Baer wrote the screenplay for a film about George Herman “Babe” Ruth, and was co-author of numerous works. (bio by: Lucy Caldarelli)
