Anne Jackson

Actress. Born Anna June Jackson to parents of European descent, her mother was of an Irish-Catholic background, Anne was raised in an apartment in Brooklyn. After choosing to pursue a career as a performer, she studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. During this period, she met actor Eli Wallach who she would marry in 1948 and remain with until his death in 2014. In 1944, she began an association with Broadway which lasted fifty-years beginning with the play “The New Moon” and earned her a Tony Award nomination for “Middle of the Night” (1956 to 1957). In 1949, she initiated her lengthy career in television with an episode from the series “Actor’s Studio” (1949) and received an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in a 1967 episode of the series “CBS Playhouse”. “Her film career began with the picture “So Bad So Young” (1950) and following this, she went on to act in such films as “The Tiger Makes Out” (1967) in which she costarred opposite Eli Wallach, “Lovers and Other Strangers” (1970) and “The Shining” (1980). Her union with Wallach produced their son Peter Wallach who became a film producer and director and their daughters Roberta Wallach and Katherine Wallach who both became actresses.
