Kathleen Byron

Actress. She is best known for her role as the mad nun Sister Ruth in the 1947 film “Black Narcissus”. Born in London, she was educated at the Old Vic School before making her motion picture debut in the Carol Reed film “The Young Mr. Pitt” (1942). Among her other big screen credits are “The Silver Fleet” (1943), “The Small Black Room” (1949), “Prelude to Fame” (1950), “Tom Brown’s Schooldays” (1951), “Young Bess” (1953), “Hammerhead” (1968), “One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing” (1975), “The Elephant Man” (1980) and “Saving Private Ryan” (1998). Her television credits include “Danger Man”, “The Avengers”, “Armchair Theatre” and “Z Cars”.
