Miguel Ferrer, the actor best known for starring as Owen Granger on “NCIS: Los Angeles,” died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, of cancer, according to multiple news sources. He was 61.
Ferrer’s other notable roles were as FBI pathologist Albert Rosenfield in the cult classic television series “Twin Peaks” and as Vice President Rodriguez in the movie “Iron Man 3.”
Ferrer will be seen reprising his role as Rosenfield in the upcoming “Twin Peaks” reboot for Showtime. The series has already finished filming and will debut this summer.
Ferrer was the oldest of the five children of singer Rosemary Clooney and Academy Award-winning actor Jose Ferrer. He is a first cousin of actor George Clooney. He started his career as a drummer and played the drums on a cover of the Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby” for Keith Moon’s solo album, “Two Sides of the Moon.”
George Clooney released the following statement: “Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family. Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you, Miguel. We always will.” died peacefully at home, according to CBS.
“NCIS: Los Angeles” show runner R. Scott Gemmill shared a tribute to Ferrer in a statement: “Today, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ lost a beloved family member. Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humor, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”
