Kenneth W. “Ken” Monfort

Renown Western Cattleman, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist. Born in Greeley, Weld County, Colorado. Ken Monfort became the CEO of the family owned, Monfort Beef Company in 1970 and remained in that position until the sale of the company to ConAgra Red Meat Companies in 1998. Monfort was also known for his philanthropic generosity. He supported several causes; the Monfort Birth Center, the University of Northern Colorado’s, Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business, the Union Colony Civic Center, and the Monfort Children’s Clinic. He also contributed much of the cost of the Veteran’s Park, located at Bittersweet Park, in Greeley, Colorado. In the 1960’s Monfort held a seat in the Colorado General Assembly. In 1968, he ran for the Colorado United States Senate, but was defeated. In 1991, Monfort was awarded, “Citizen of the West,” by the National Western Stock Show. The National Western Stock Show described Monfort as, “a pioneer in the livestock industry and community leader in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West.” (bio by: Greg Bailey)
