Businessman. Born Haroldson Lafayette Hunt, Jr., he was an extremely talented entrepreneur and a Texas oil magnate. He began creating his huge financial empire from a small investment in oil in Arkansas and founded the Hunt Oil Company in Texas, in the 1940s. By the late 1950s, his estimated wealth was between $400 million and $700 million. In addition to his oil business, he expanded by investing into producing canned goods, health products and cosmetics. Following his innovative and creative business tactics, he became one of the world’s richest men. He also was a generous donator and a major financial contributor toward the establishment of the conservative Christian evangelical Criswell College in Dallas, Texas. At the time of his death at age 85, he was reputed to have the highest net worth of any individual in the world. The town of Hunt Texas, was named in his honor.
