Cartoonist, Writer. He is best known for creating the character “Hazel”, which was regularly featured in the Saturday Evening Post and became a popular television series during the 1960s starring Shirley Booth. Born in Fresno, he attended the University of California at Berkeley and later began his career writing for such publications as “Cosmopolitan”, “Ladies’ Home Journal” and “Better Homes and Gardens” as well as working in radio. Key wrote several stories that became Disney movies, among them “The Million Dollar Duck” (1971), “Gus” (1976) and “The Cat from Outer Space” (1978). He created the characters “Peabody and Sherman” which appeared in the 1960s animated series “The Bullwinkle Show”. Key died at his suburban-Philadelphia home at the age of 95. (bio by: C.S.)
