Oleg Cassini (Oleg Cassini)
Fashion Designer. Famous for the outfits he designed for First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. A Hollywood costume designer, who was married to actress Gene Tierney for ten years, and dated Grace Kelly. Oleg Cassini was born Oleg Loiewski in Paris, France, of Russian parents in 1913. He used his mother’s name for his professional career. He attended school in Florence, Italy at the English Catholic School and graduated from the Accademia delle Belle Arti in 1932. After working in his mother’s dress shop he opened his own in Rome, Italy in 1933. In 1936, he went to New York and designed for various shopes. In 1940 he joined 20th Century Fox. After a brief marriage and divorce he married Gene Tierney in 1941. They would have two children before their divorce in 1952. In 1953 he began a relationship with Grace Kelly. She rejected him in favour of Prince Ranier of Monaco, whom she subsequently married. He rose to fame when he became the premiere fashion designer for Mrs. Kennedy in 1960. He would design 300 during the course of the administration. His label would continue on. Oleg Cassini retired to Connecticut, but still worked part time. In the 1990s his company formed a partnership with David’s Bridal.
